Imaging is a cornerstone technology underpinning science at the Crick. We have a critical need to support the analysis of data from a wide-range of imaging modalities including light microscopy, electron microscopy, histology, and pre-clinical imaging. To address these needs an Image Analysis Group comprised of two positions has been created within the CALM STP. We now seek to fill the second of these roles. The Image Analyst will provide training and assistance in image analysis through activities including walk-up assistance, help-desks, and training seminars. They will also work in close association with CRGs to select and develop research projects in greater depth.
The core responsibility of the Image Analyst is to provide CRGs with the tools needed to rigorously and efficiently extract quantitative data from their images. In the first instance, this will involve training users in basic quantitative techniques, with a specific focus on using open source tool s including (but not limited to) FIJI/ImageJ, CellProfiler and Ilastik. The Image Analyst will also support the use of commercial software such as Imaris, NIS Elements, Zen and Huygens, in party by helping to administer workstations maintained by the CALM STP. The Image Analyst will work with CALM staff and CRGs to develop optimised image acquisition and analysis workflows. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone with appropriate skills to help Crick Research Groups (CRGs) answer a wide range of exciting scientific questions.
These include but are not limited to:
- Training microscopy users how to perform image analysis tasks
- Assisting CRGs with more involved workflows, including colocalisation, segmentation and tracking
- Assisting CRGs with experimental designs that facilitate quantitative image analysis
- Development and maintenance of automated analysis pipelines
- Assisting with the analysis, interpretation, and presentation of quantitative data
- Communication to internal and external audiences
